A Mountain of Anime Updates Landed Over the Festive Season

The winter break provide a plethora of pastimes far superior than checking the headlines: opening presents, feasting on holiday treats, and employing meditation skills to avoid yelling at loved ones. Hopefully you managed to do all these things and more. Nevertheless, the showbiz industry doesn't go on vacation, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. A slew of noteworthy announcements came out over the holidays, and just in case you missed any, here is a compilation of the biggest bits.

One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Moving Forward (In 2027)

Without a doubt the most surprising piece of news, the widely-criticized troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to stop the series' continuation. Season 3 will return with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—such a distant date they might as well have called it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will still be at the helm. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the outset, which could be taken as a good sign. However, the key visual for the continuation is identical to the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This makes me think that, nowadays, they are probably mocking the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Poised to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has forged a reputation for being an elite animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the high caliber of its work but for the good working conditions of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had never worked on an anime adapted from a manga published in Shonen Jump, arguably the most famous magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became massive popularity when it launched in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the mangaka's health issues. When it came back with a lighter schedule, the series proved it maintained the fans' appreciation and enthusiasm, and now fans are ecstatic about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Season 6 Has a Sequel Now in the Works

Kingdom is the highly popular, epic Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only recently got an English translation, but the anime has been airing for years, and its sixth season was yet another stellar entry. As it happens that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in development, and it will probably debut in 2026.

Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

One more studio famous for the excellent quality of its projects, Science Saru has given us critically acclaimed works of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an powerful woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and intriguing visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my list of anticipated shows.

Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Second Season

Right after the conclusion of its twenty-fourth episode, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a sequel. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific release date has not yet been announced.
